Duncan's Metal Freehand Zero, commonly shortened to Metal Zero, is an all aluminum version of Duncan's very popular Freehand Zero. The Metal Zero was released in December of 2006 and cost around forty dollarscompared to the 60-500$ price tag of other pro yo-yos. The yo-yo was released in three colors: black, blue, and pink, it had a thumb grind lip and brush finish. It also had an adjustable gap and flush mounted friction stickers, which made it slightly less responsive than the Freehand Zero. It came packaged with a die, bouncy ball, and a character head counterweights for freehand play.
The Duncan Metal Zero is one of the cheapest metals on the market today. Its sells for 40 USD, which is half the cost of today's metals. Duncan has made a leap by manufacturing the Metal Zero in China, excluding a fancy finish, using cheaper grade aluminum, and put them in mass production all to help the price be so low. They first debuted to a few lucky people who managed to grab one at the 2006 World YoYo Competition. Some complaints came back that the axle was easily strippable, and that the yo-yo would fall apart mid spin. These were only prototypes so Duncan went back and made a new axle that fixed this problem. Even after it's official release, the Duncan Metal Zero's had a couple glitches.
In response to these problems, Duncan released the second version of the Metal Zero. The new Duncan Metal Zero is much nicer than the old version, and it comes in green, red, and blue. It has a Duncan sized bearing, dual sticker recess, "brushed" finish, and IRG anodized yo-yo that plays great for the price.
