The Grind Machine was the first release in YoYoFactory's Project Red Alert series, and the first YoYoFactory yo-yo that didn't use the F.A.S.T. response system, instead coming with three different response pads. The F.A.S.T. starburst arms were still present internally, holding the lens caps in place. There were two production runs, first in a dark green (98 yo-yos made), and later in a shade of ice blue mixed with green and including a new "Gap Gadget" adjustable gap (200 yo-yos made.)
